(From a Luxury Home Organizer in Denver)
The holiday season is full of magic — and … stuff. So. Much. Stuff. Between gift wrap explosions, guest prep, and the mysterious appearance of 47 mismatched food containers, it’s easy to lose track of what’s even in your home.
Before the tree goes up and the cookie tins take over, here are ten things to let go of for a calmer, prettier, more functional season. As a Denver luxury home organizer, I always tell my clients: you don’t need to start big — just start.
1. The Tupperware Drawer
Let’s start with the drawer that haunts us all. Match every lid and base, recycle the orphans, and treat yourself to a fresh set that actually stacks.
2. Holiday Mugs & Glassware
Keep one or two sentimental pieces and let go of the rest. Your shelves will thank you.
3. Gift Bags, Bows & Wrapping Paper
Out with the crumpled bags and tangled ribbon. Keep one small bin of neutral paper and classic ribbons that work year-round.
4. Extra Gift Boxes & Tissue Paper
We all have that mountain of random boxes and half-crumpled tissue “just in case.” This is your sign to pare it down. Keep a few neutral, sturdy boxes on hand for last-minute gifting — the rest can go straight to recycling
5. Pantry Items
Check expiration dates and clear space for baking ingredients and holiday staples. Donate unopened extras to a local food bank before the rush.

6. Candle Overload
We all love a good scent moment, but eight half-burned “Winter Pine” candles is not ambiance, it’s clutter. Curate your top 3 and light them guilt-free.
7. Kids’ Toys & Games
Before new gifts arrive, have your kids choose a few toys to donate.
8. Holiday Décor That Never Makes the Cut
If it didn’t make the tree or mantel this year, it probably never will. Keep what you love, donate the rest for others to love.
9. Serving Platters & Specialty Dishes
You only need a few versatile, neutral serving pieces. Store or donate the overly seasonal ones that crowd your cabinets.
10. The “Just in Case” Drawer
We all have one. Take 15 minutes to toss dried pens, random cords, and outdated chargers.
Ready for a Fresh Start?
The holidays are busy enough — your home shouldn’t add to the stress. A thoughtful purge now means a more peaceful, polished home later.
